ScamsShield browser extension
The free extension provides local website checks and ad/tracker blocking without a paid AI check. AI-assisted extension checks require the paid extension plan and are subject to its quota. Premium website tools and the paid extension plan are separate; the Bundle includes both. A warning check is a second opinion, not a guarantee.
Install the free browser extension
You can download and use the free local checks without an account. Follow the steps for your desktop browser below.
Desktop Chrome: install from the Chrome Web Store
- Open the ScamsShield Chrome Web Store listing linked on this page.
- Review the publisher, permissions and privacy information, then choose Add to Chrome if you want to continue.
- Confirm Add extension in Chrome, pin ScamsShield from the extensions menu and reload the website you want to check.
Chrome and Microsoft Edge: website ZIP
- Download and unzip the extension.
- Open chrome://extensions in Chrome or edge://extensions in Edge.
- Turn on Developer mode, then choose Load unpacked.
- Select the extracted folder containing manifest.json. Keep that folder on your computer.
- Pin ScamsShield in the extensions menu, then reload the website you want to check.

Temporary Firefox installations disappear after a browser restart. Permanent installation requires a signed Firefox release.
Prefer a store install? Use the Chrome Web Store listing on this page. Store and website downloads may have different version numbers; compare them before updating.
Before you install
- What can I use for free?
- The current website ZIP includes local warning checks for three distinct websites per UTC day per installation, plus ad/tracker blocking. No account is needed for those free features. Store releases may differ; check the installed version.
- Do I need Premium for the extension?
- Free local checks do not require a subscription. AI-assisted extension checks require the separate paid extension plan and use its quota. Website Premium is a separate product; the Bundle includes both.
- Does a low-risk result prove a website is safe?
- No. ScamsShield can miss scams or flag legitimate content. Verify important requests independently and never share passwords, verification codes or recovery phrases.
